Dusting with laundry dryer sheets

Often flat surfaces like mirrors, windows and walls stay clean for a long time but gather dust. To get that light layer of dust off quick give them a quick wipe with a laundry dryer sheet. They will get that dust off quick without leaving streaks.

Plus the chemicals in the sheets help repel dust so you can go longer between dusting. You can also use them to dust off light fixtures, blinds, appliances and lots more!

Vacuum inside drawers and cabinets

Most people use the vacuum attachment or small hand held vacuum to suck up small messes on the floor or furniture. But they can be used in many more places to make quick work of dust and dirt buildup.

Use them in kitchen cabinets to suck up crumbs and dust. When you empty out a “junk” drawer use it to get all that dirt on the bottom. Run a brush attachment over window ledges, countertop edges, under the sink and over your computer keyboard!

Clean your microwave with lemon

It can be easy to let food build up inside your microwave. That dried on food can be real hard to get off once you finally decide to give it a good cleaning. Especially how awkward it is to clean the inside top and sides.

Make it easier by putting a microwave safe bowl of water and lemon slices inside, turn it on and let it boil for a few minutes. The water and lemon steam will loosen up all the gunk so you can just wipe it all off. Let it sit a few minutes after it boils.

Put citrus down the disposal

Speaking of lemons; putting quarters of lemons, oranges and limes into your garbage disposal is a great way to clean and kill bacteria in it. The acidity in them helps to kill bacteria and makes it smell better.

Cut up oranges, limes or lemons into quarters or smaller and feed them one at a time into the garbage disposal with the water running. Do this once a week or so depending on how often you put food down it. It will help a lot and is so easy!

Organize your kitchen

Often the kitchen counters in busy homes turn into places that accumulate a lot of junk. Piles of mail stack up on one end, kids toys wait for repairs on the other and suddenly you have no room to prepare dinner!

Keep your mail in a basket in a different room. Find a place in the living room or office for things that need fixing. Get organizers and put medicine bottles, cleaning items and other things in their own place. Keep your counter empty for preparing food.

Use brushes and pads

Sometimes we use plain cleaning rags so often for everything that we forget all the other cleaning tools at our disposal. Stock up on different sizes and shapes of cleaning brushes, pads and sponges. They don’t cost much.

Then use them for scrubbing sinks, stovetops, bathrooms and more instead of just spraying cleaning solutions and wiping it off with a rag. Sometimes a cleaning job needs a good brushing or scrubbing to get off stuck on and built-up dirt!

Soak dishes during dinner

Do you clean your dishes in the sink because you don’t have a dishwasher? If so fill the sink up full with hot water and dish soap when you start cooking. Move the pots and pans into the sink as you empty them and let them soak as you eat.

They will be a lot easier to clean after a good soaking and it will motivate you to get them done instead of letting them pile up in an empty sink. Sometimes you need a little push to get chores done!

Clean your baseboards

Most people forget to clean the baseboards. Over time they collect dust and dirt and start to look pretty bad to guest. One a month or so wipe them down with a dryer sheet or use a rag damp with cleaning solution. They will look much better!

Clean your shower head

Over time hard water deposits start to plug up your shower head nozzles. For an easy clean, fill up a plastic sandwich bag with a 50-50 mixture of vinegar and water. Then use a rubber band or string to tie the mixture over your shower head.

Make sure the nozzles are completely submerged in the mixture. Let it set for a few hours. Then remove the mixture, wipe off the outside of the shower head and run hot water through it for a minute or two.

Wash your shower curtain liner in the washing machine

Most people don’t know it, but you can wash your shower curtain liner (not the rubber shower curtain) in the washing machine. Simply toss it in the washing machine with a few dirty towels and do a quick clean cycle.

Once done hang it back up to dry. It will look a lot better, get rid of any mildew on it and will save you money from buying a new one. It’s best to replace the rubber shower curtain however once it gets too far gone.
