Besides the heat you can count on in Florida, another thing that always seems to hang around is spider cobwebs! Cleaners and homeowners seem to fight a never ending battle with them.
There are many different types of spiders in Florida, and they all seem to find a way into your house. One day all is fine, the next day you press your face into a cobweb going down the hallway!
The boss here at Covenant Cleaning Services has a pet peeve about cobwebs. She encourages all her cleaners to keep a watch out for cobwebs and wipe them down. 😀
Today I’m going to give some tips on how to wipe down and clean up spider cobwebs in your home. Our cleaners deal with them every day so we know how to get rid of them.
Use a special cobweb duster, or brush
Most people don’t know this, but you can buy a special cleaning tool that is made for wiping down cobwebs. It looks like a duster but it has a dome shaped head.
It has firm but soft bristles and often comes attached to a telescoping extension pole so you can reach cobwebs on the ceilings. Do an online search for “cobweb duster” to find one.
To use it, extend the pole to the length needed, like cleaning a cobweb in a corner where the wall and ceiling meet. Place the brush right in the middle of the web and corner.
Then slowly twist the duster, wrapping the cobweb around the brush. Move it around and keep rotating it until you get all the web and dirt off the wall and ceiling.
Use a vacuum or hand held vacuum to clean up any bits of cobweb and dirt that falls onto the floor. You can use it for lots of different areas in your home or garage.
To clean the cobweb brush or duster, go outside and shake off dirt. Or wipe it on the grass to get sticky webs off. You can vacuum it too, or wipe with a rag.
Wash the brush in warm soapy water, rinse and air dry so it’s ready for the next use. Covenant Cleaning Services has several of these we use all the time and they work great.
Use a normal duster for lights and delicate items
Spiders love to make cobwebs on light fixtures, fancy light decor and chandeliers. For items like that you need a soft touch. Use a normal soft duster to gently dust the cobwebs away.
The same goes for cobwebs on plants, wall art, decorative items and so on. Blinds and windowsills also are best cleaned with a soft duster. Shake it off outside or wipe down with a rag after.
Use a vacuum with an attachment
Finally another great way to get rid of those pesky cobwebs is to suck them up with a vacuum using an attachment. Use a brush attachment for curtains, furniture and electronics.
Use a crevice tool to suck up cobwebs behind appliances, in hard to reach corners of the house, under desk and other hard to clean areas. Don’t forget wall and ceiling vents too!
I hope these tips help you clean up and get rid of cobwebs in your home. Unfortunately they always seem to come back over time. But you have to try!
