How To Remove Pet Hair, Dog And Cat Hair House Cleaning Tips

Most families have pets these days. Dogs and cats are the most common pets people own. I know I myself have had many dogs and cats in my life! Unfortunately they tend to shed hair, a lot!

Covenant Cleaning Services cleans a lot of homes that have pets. So we know a lot about how to get rid of all that pet hair in your carpet, couch, chairs and everywhere else.

In fact we are a very pet friendly cleaning service. We know how much your fur babies mean to you and take care to clean around them as stress free as possible.

What are the best ways to get rid of pet hair in the home? Below I have put together some tips on the best ways to remove pet hair from your house, carpets, furniture and clothes.

Daily brushing of your pet

The first step is to try to reduce the pet hair from the source! A daily grooming and brushing of your dog or cat will really reduce the amount of hair shedding.

There are many type of brushes, rollers, hand gloves and other devices you can find in pet stores to use on your pet. Some work better than others so try a few to see what your pet likes the most.

It only take 10 minutes or so per day to brush out the worst of the hair shedding coming from your dog or cat furbaby. Of course large dogs or having many pets will add to the time.

Use pet beds and pet blankets

Getting your dog or cat their own pet bed will help to contain most of their fur to one area. Once they get use to their pet bed they will use it all the time. Then you can brush or clean the pet hair off easier than all over the house!

Also most pet beds have an outer zip out liner. So you can remove it, brush off most of the hair and then throw it into the washing machine for a wash.

If your pet refuses to use a pet bed or has several places around the house they like to sleep, use a pet blanket or towel for them to lay on. They will get use to laying on it and use it; at least most do!

Then you can once again just brush off the hair and throw it in the wash when needed. Hopefully your pet will enjoy resting in their favorite pet bed or pet blanket and leave most of their hair in one place.

Removing pet hair from furniture and couches

Dog and cat pet hair on furniture and couches is almost inevitable when you have them. Lint rollers that are rated for pet hair does wonders to get most of it off. However you can go through a lot of it quickly!

A plain rubber glove, any kind that you can buy for cleaning, will pick up a lot of fur also. By putting the glove or gloves on and rubbing the furniture or couch fabric, you produce static electricity that makes hair and lint stick to the gloves.

Then you can simply brush it off into the trash. Doing this first, followed by lint rollers will get almost all pet hair off and save on the lint rollers. You can buy rubber gloves made to remove pet fur in pet stores also.

Small cordless handheld vacuums also work very well to suck up dog and cat pet hair off furniture. However you will have to empty it often.

Finally for a sure proof way to get all that hair off furniture, use a good vacuum with an upholstery attachment. The rollers in the attachment work just like a vacuum on carpet, pulling all that hair and lint out of the fabric.

Covenant Cleaning Services uses vacuums with upholstery attachments to get your couches and furniture deep down clean, removing all that pet hair. Use a crevice tool for under cushions and hard to get to places.

Removing pet hair from hard floors and carpets

If you have a hardwood floor or other type of non carpeted floor, a dry microfiber mop head will attract and hold lots of pet hair you can brush off into the trash. Using a broom tends to blow the hair all over.

Covenant Cleaning Services uses only microfiber mops on hard floors. We use dry ones to pick up hair and dirt, and then use wet ones with a mop bucket of soapy water for stains and a final clean.

Use a vacuum crevice tool after using a dry microfiber mop to get pet hair in corners, under furniture and hard to reach areas. Pet hair really builds up in corners and along baseboards.

To remove dog and cat pet hair from throw rugs, mats and carpets, nothing beats a good vacuum! Sprinkle your favorite carpet freshener or pet odor remover onto the carpet first.

Then use the lowest height setting you can on the vacuum and go over it multiple times. Use alternate directions so the hair gets pulled out rather than pushed down.

Covenant Cleaning Services uses commercial house cleaning vacuums that are powerful and really suck out all that pet hair in your mats and carpets. They have a good HEPA filter to trap fine particles.

Removing pet hair from clothes

When you have a dog or cat, pet hair on your clothes is a never ending battle. Seems like you can never get rid of all of it. If you have a lap cat furbaby, put a pet blanket or towel on your lap before they jump up for a nap with you.

There are tons of different lint rollers, brushes and pet hair gloves you can find in stores. Try a few and see which ones seem to work the best for you.

I personally like lint rollers that are extra sticky. The ones that say they work well on pet hair normally work the best. Again try a few different types and see what you prefer. Vacuums don’t seem to work well on clothes.

If you have some clothes that are full of hair, put them in the dryer and do a short, tumble dry cycle. The movement will remove most of the hair and trap it in the lint filter. Be sure to clean the filter after.

Using a dryer sheet when you put your clothes in the dryer will also help get rid of pet hair. You can even buy spikey dryer balls that are made to remove pet hair from clothes in the dryer.

Those are my basic tips for how to get rid of and remove dog and cat pet hair from your home, furniture, floors and clothes. We have years of pet hair cleaning experience.
