Holiday House Cleaning Services, Holiday Season Home Cleaning

It’s the holiday season, with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years coming up fast. Many will host parties and gatherings with family and friends. You will want your home looking it’s best with a good cleaning.

I thought I would give out some useful tips on how to make your home sparkle and look great for your guest. As well as advice on if you should get a cleaning service to do it all for you. Here are some basics.

Make a holiday cleaning checklist

Making a cleaning checklist will ensure you clean the most important areas of your home and not overlook anything. Here are some general guidelines that will help you not miss anything.

All over decluttering

We all tend to set stuff aside to put away later. Over time it builds up into a mess you may not notice yourself but others will. Put those odds and ends in a drawer, storage box or closet.

Stacks of paper and bills can be put in an office drawer. Those bags of open snacks and cans of soup go into the pantry. Pens, scissors, small electronics and so on can be put in their holders or hangers.

Put those shirts and pants laying around into the coat closet. Tidy up the toothpaste, soap and other bathroom necessities. Put out fresh hand towels and dump that pile of dirty laundry in the corner into the laundry hamper!

Putting everything in it’s place will go a long way to making your house look better and cleaner fast. Wipe and dust all those areas once you have things cleared away.

Entryway, living and dining areas

These areas will be the most noticeable to your guest and where they will spend the most time. Start from the top down, dusting ceiling fans, tops of shelves, blinds, lights and decor.

Clean the windows and windowsills, mirrors, pictures, doors and door knobs. Polish glass tables and wipe off coffee cup stains and fingerprints on coffee tables, end tables and desk.

Wipe down the dining table and/or put on a new tablecloth. Add a nice holiday centerpiece in the middle of the table. Brush off seat cushions and armrest. Empty the trash cans.

Spot clean carpets with carpet cleaner. Sprinkle carpet freshener all over, but not TOO much! Give it all a good, deep vacuum. For hard floor surfaces a good sweep and mop with cleaner does wonders.

The bathrooms

Everyone is going to use the bathroom at some point, so you want that looking it’s best. Polish the mirrors and wipe down dirt on walls. Put everything away in drawers and in their places.

Give the countertops, sink and faucet handles a good scrubbing. Wipe off the top and back of the toilet, followed by scrubbing the toilet bowl, wiping down the seats and around the outside to the bottom with a good cleaner and disinfectant.

Spread the shower curtain fully across and take down anything hanging from the shower rod. Replenish toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap and leave out plenty of towels and hand towels.

Sweep and mop the floor. Make sure to empty the trash cans. Leave out a can of room freshener and use those automatic fresheners that keeps the room smelling nice all the time.

The kitchen

Take a peek inside the fridge and throw out stuff expired, old leftovers and almost empty cans and bottles. You will need the room for holiday food and beverages.

Clean the microwave inside and out and wipe down small kitchen appliances. Put away stuff not needed on the countertops. Clear all dirty dishes and wash or put in the dishwasher for a washing.

Clean off the countertops and sink with a good cleaner and disinfectant. Give the stove or range a good scrubbing and wipe down the top back parts. Put out plenty of paper towels.

Wipe any spills and stains on the kitchen cabinet doors and walls. Sweep and mop the floors and empty all trash cans. Maybe spray some freshener into them too!

That takes care of most of the areas your guest will see and be in. A good holiday cleaning can be a lot of work and time consuming when you are not use to it.
